OPAP chooses GTECH G2 for egaming
Lottomatica subsidiary will act as IT provider as Greek monopoly moves online.

GTECH G2 has won the race to act as IT provider for OPAP as the Greek monopoly takes its first step into online betting.
The Lottomatica subsidiary has fought off competition from Playtech and Intralot to win the contract, after the three parties were named in March’s shortlist.
OPAP announced earlier this year that the move into online gaming would mark the start of a strategy to expand its services into a number of regulated markets across Europe. The launch of egaming in Greece and beyond could provide a much-needed boost to revenues, after OPAP’s first-quarter profits fell by 20% year-on-year.
OPAP said in a statement: “This choice [of GTECH G2] allows OPAP to make an important step in its history and offer iGaming services.”
Meanwhile the Greek government is planning to sell off a 29% stake in the monopoly leaving it owning just 5%, with the proceeds set to go towards paying off the country’s mounting debt. The stake is thought to be worth around 1bn.
GTECH G2 was among the first wave of service providers to receive a Spanish egaming licence, and launched a poker network in the jurisdiction in June.
It is also one of two companies to have submitted bids to provide a real-money poker platform for Zynga, after the social gaming giant opened a tender for the contract.
