Danske Spil announces Betware mobile launch
Icelandic supplier to provide suite of lotto, instant win and sports betting products for former monopoly.

Former Danish monopoly Danske Spil has announced the launch of a mobile offering using Betware’s Smartphone Suite solution, which provides the operator with mobile lotto, instant win games and sports betting software for the Android and iOS platforms.
Products will be managed by Danske Licens Spil, the company’s ‘liberalised market’ division responsible for sports betting, casino and poker products, formed as part of an organisational restructure which saw the company divided into three ahead of the opening of the Danish market.
Managing director of the division Jens Aaløse said that he was “very satisfied” with the launch: “Going forward, we expect to continue adding the popular scratch games through all our distribution channels, where mobile is taking an increasingly important role,” he said.
“We want to reach out to all demographics of players, whether that is the mobile, desktop or retail player. Our strategy is to offer our players the best content with maximum convenience, and the smartphone sports solution from Betware is a great step in that direction. The initial results look very promising indeed,” Aaløse explained.
Betware CEO Stefan Hrafnkelsson commented that he was pleased to have further enhanced his company’s position as a leading supplier in the Nordic region: “We are excited about this launch, especially after the successful introduction of smartphone Lotto for the Icelandic National Lottery in 2011, and are confident that this launch will positively influence the Danish gaming market.
“The expansion of mobile technology opens up new opportunities for players, and we at Betware are always focused on offering our customers top-class products that are in line with latest market trends,” he said.
The release of Danske Spil’s mobile offering follows January’s launch of online poker and casino using software provided by bwin.party, after the company was awarded an operating licence in December 2011.
Danske Spil has also opened the tender process to find a partner for a sports betting platform, though it has not revealed which suppliers have stated an interest in working with them. Danske Licens Spil’s sports betting manager Jens Nielsen told eGaming Review that the operator would only make an announcement once a partner had been selected, and would not reveal the unsuccessful applicants.
