EC to hold regulator summit
Meeting first action taken following Commissioner Barnier's pledge to ensure gambling legislation is compliant with EU law.

The European Commission (EC) is to hold its first ever meeting of Europe’s regulatory bodies in Brussels next Monday.
The meeting is the first part of an initiative launched by internal market and services commissioner Michel Barnier, following the adoption of the EC’s Report on Online Gambling in the Internal Market, released in November last year. Barnier also announced that the Commission would take action to ensure gambling legislation was compliant with European law.
Secretary General of the European Gaming and Betting Association Sigrid Ligné welcomed the developments. “We welcome this first-ever meeting under the Commission’s aegis of Europe’s national gambling regulators and have high expectations of this process. We are calling for the introduction of EU-level rules to safeguard adequate protection for consumers and at the same time ensure fair and transparent licensing conditions for EU operators.”
