Odds shorten on Mattingley becoming 888 CEO
59 year-old not seen as long-term solution but stellar 2011 results indicate he is likely to accept vacant position.
Three consecutive record quarterly results have encouraged Brian Mattingley, the 59 year-old current deputy chairman of 888, to put his name in the hat for the vacant chief executive position, eGaming Review has learned.
Although an 888 spokesman said the board is happy to continue with the current structure and “no decision had been made on who to appoint as Gigi Levy’s replacement”, eGaming Review has learned that following a stellar set of results over the last nine months Mattingley is in the process of negotiating terms to become permanent CEO of 888.
According to sources the City would welcome Mattingley’s appointment with recent financial results propelling the veteran gaming executive into the limelight and giving the 888 board the easy option of handing him the top job.
Earlier this week the company reported that its third-quarter revenues rose 10% on a record Q2, with B2C poker revenue growing 120%. Revenue for the three months ended 30 September came in at US$86m, up from $61m for the corresponding period in 2010 and the highest quarterly figure in the company’s history, with a 120% year-on-year increase in B2C poker revenue (from $8m to $18m) one of the main factors.
