Tipico streamlines mobile deposits with card scanning tech
German operator follows Betfair and PokerStars in its partnership with payments firm Jumio

Tipico has introduced card-scanning technology to its app and mobile site in an effort to streamline the first-time depositing process.
The sports betting operator has partnered with California-based payments firm Jumio, whose technology allows customers to simply scan their bankcard with their mobile device when making an initial deposit.
“We want to provide a great customer experience at every step of the process,” said Tipico’s director of product management, Jim Parkins.
“The first deposit is a critical step of the customer journey and sets the standard for the rest of their experience with us.
“With a simple and secure method of making a first deposit, we are giving new customers a first class experience right from the start.”
Jumio, which has previously partnered with Betfair, Rank and PokerStars to improve their customer verification processes, said an average industry deposit took between one and two minutes with some operators reporting abandonment rates of up to 70%.
“It is an industry-wide problem and one Jumio is leading the way in solving,” the firm said in a statement.
“Tipico is a serious name in gaming and we are pleased to work with them to provide their customers the perfect experience from start to finish,” said Robert Prigge, Jumio’s chief revenue officer.
The project is the first announced by Tipico since the appointment of its new CCO, Marlon van der Goes, who was charged with improving the brand’s customer experience.
It also marks the operator’s latest effort to streamline the payments process after launching Tipico Pay in July, a prepaid deposit app which allows punters to top-up their online accounts using cash at a large number of retail pay points across Germany.
