PokerStars extends Spin & Go to Omaha games
New tournaments continue the operator’s ‘poker ecosystem overhaul’

PokerStars has expanded its popular Spin & Go format to Omaha games for the first time, as the Amaya-owned brand continues its efforts to overhaul the poker ecosystem.
Spin & Gos are fast-paced, three-player tournaments, where the prize pool is determined randomly, with pay-outs between two and 10,000 times the player’s buy-in.
“Omaha is a highly enjoyable poker variant and was quite high up on our players’ request list to deliver it as a Spin & Go,” said Severin Rasset, director of poker operations and innovation.
“So we’re really pleased to be able to do this and hope that it will be as popular in this format as it is in our cash games.”
In Omaha games, players are given four hole cards to make their hand rather than two as in Hold Em. Spin & Go Omaha will be available to play at $1, $3, $7 and $15 stakes.
“Omaha is just perfect for Spin & Go,” said Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis. “There will be a lot of action because you can play so many hands, but it’s also really hard to knock people out in PLO. This will make for some very intense situations when the multipliers get high. I can’t wait to try them.”
The launch continues PokerStars’ efforts to push players into fast-paced, arguably less-skilled formats, as it looks to attract more recreational players,
In the firm’s FY2016 results, Amaya CEO Rafi Ashkenazi said the ongoing changes to the poker ecosystem were “reversing certain negative trends and generating organic growth in [the poker] business”.
