Paddy Power offers bets via Facebook Messenger with new chatbot
Operator claims it is “first bookmaker to market” with Onionsack-powered feature

Paddy Power has launched a new Facebook Messenger chatbot that allows punters to place bets directly through the instant messaging app.
The new product, powered by developer Onionsack, builds upon Paddy Power’s chatbot debut by allowing punters to log into their accounts, check their balance and place bets for the first time.
The bot also offers “tongue in cheek” interactions, and can provide push notifications with sporting results based on user preferences.
“We know our customers love mobile messaging apps so having a ChatBot on Facebook Messenger is the obvious first step into the ChatBot marketplace,” Paddy Power product manager Michael Healy said.
“We’re delighted to be the first bookmaker to market in such an exciting area.
“Nearly all of Paddy Power’s customers are on Facebook, and now they can actually place a bet through the Facebook Messenger app with ease.
“Our customers will be able to request odds and receive push notifications tailored to their own betting interests, plus enjoy a daily serving of Paddy Power mischief and entertainment,” Healy added.
Onionsack CEO Jonathan Power said he expected more bookmakers to follow in Paddy Power’s footsteps and launch betting chatbots in “the near future”.
“With nearly the whole world connected to Facebook, the logical step is to allow customers to place a bet through the social media giant’s Messenger app,” Power added.
Paddy Power’s first chatbot was built to offer tips and banter around the Grand National, while Sky Bet has used a similar tool to engage with potential employees.
In related news, Paddy Power today launched its new VIPP club, which mimics Sky Bet’s Free Bet Club, by offering customers a free £10 bet for every week in which they place five bets of £10 or more.
