BetVictor to give away £1m on new-look Golden Goal competition
Punters must now also predict correct scores in bid to produce more rollovers and create bigger jackpots

BetVictor has announced changes to its free-to-play weekly Golden Goal competition as the firm pledges to give away £1m on the promotion during the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
The new format means customers will now have to predict the correct score of the selected game, as well as the time of the first goal and goalscorer to have a shot at the weekly £25,000 prize.
The old competition was launched on the back of a successful Euro 2016 promotion but punters complained that there were too many winners and not enough rollovers.
For example, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal in the 19th minute of a Golden Goal match last season and the 926 winners claimed just £27 each.
The new rule should create bigger jackpots and allow for more rollovers as the sportsbook has guaranteed to give away £1m on the promotion throughout 2017-18.
The prize pool for the opening weekend is £50,000 and will increase by £25,000 each week if a winner can’t be found.

Punters must now also predict the correct score in order to win the Golden Goal jackpot
BetVictor’s head of sportsbook product, Eoin Ryan, said: “We’re delighted to be running the Golden Goal for a second season, following a very successful debut year. It provides new and existing customers with a free opportunity to win a serious sum of money each weekend. “
“By adding Correct Score into the prediction mechanic we will produce bigger winning dividends and more rollovers and excitement. Once the Goal Scorer and Goal Minute are confirmed, we will be publishing live information about the remaining predictions in contention via social media and we are positive that customers will enjoy this additional level of excitement.
“The opening fixture sees Manchester United host West Ham for a £50,000 enhanced prize pool, and it’s odds-on that Romelu Lukaku will be the most popular selection on his Premier League debut for his new club.’
Customers who don’t guess the correct score but rightly predict the minute and goalscorer will receive a £5 free bet.
The firm said “the majority” of its customers had participated in the promotion last season.
