ATG prepares for Sweden regulation with new acquisition
Monopoly firm’s deal with Danish casino and sports betting operator depends on final outcome of the gambling legislation
Swedish monopoly operator ATG has signed a deal to acquire Danish casino and sports betting operator Ecosys A/S in an effort to prepare for the country’s forthcoming gambling legislation.
The agreement depends on the final outcome of the new law, and whether, as proposed, the monopoly firms will be free to expand their product offerings and compete against private operators.
ATG CEO Hasse Skarplöth said the acquisition would enable the horseracing sportsbook to offer customers a more attractive gaming experience and bring about the opportunity for larger profit pools.
“We are both proud and expectant to become part of ATG when the Swedish licensing market is in place,” Holger Kristiansen, founder of Ecosys A/S, commented.
Ecosys A/S operates a number of brands including the flagship product Bet25.dk.
The acquisition deal will be finalised once new legislation comes into place in Sweden in January 2019.
Sweden’s monopoly lottery operator Svenska Spel has made similar preparations for the legislation by re-applying for a casino licence.
