Poll: Is there a long-term future for bet-on-lotteries?
UK implements its EuroMillions betting ban while Australia prepares to prohibit foreign lottery betting

The UK’s ban on betting on the EuroMillions came into force last week in an effort to protect the amount of lottery money invested in good causes and cut out some of Camelot’s competition.
The move has been met with backlash from the likes of Lottoland, Multilotto and Jackpot.com which filed a claim against the ban on the premise it is contrary to EU law.
Lottoland was struck by a further setback in Australia last week as the federal government unveiled a proposal to prohibit betting on foreign lotteries and keno games.
The government said betting on synthetic lottery services “undermined the long-standing community acceptance of official lottery and keno products”.
Lottoland Australia CEO Luke Brill argued despite the government’s claims that bets placed on foreign lotteries do not have a significant impact on local businesses in Australia.
Lottoland’s Brill also said the ban would serve to increase the market monopoly for Tabcorp’s Tatts Group and newsagents would continue to lose local business regardless.
In response to the ban, the firm has offered newsagents a 20% commission rate on foreign lottery bets.
With this in mind, this week we’re asking whether there is a long-term future for bet-on-lottery operators in the UK and Australia?
