Weekend Review: Bookies avoid Sunday pay-out as Arsenal’s winning run comes to an end
The Gunners’ draw at Crystal Palace ruined many accumulators as the layers were finally made to pay out on Lewis Hamilton’s fifth F1 title
The bookies were delighted to see Arsenal’s 11-match winning run come to an end on Sunday after Crystal Palace fought back against the Gunners to seal a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park.
Unai Emery’s side looked like making it 12 wins on the bounce, and the acca-backers had already started spending their winnings, before Luka Milivojevic tied the game with an 83rd minute penalty.
We’ll take the point but really feel we could have won that game, brilliant team performance. Forward 🦅

BetVictor’s Charlie McCann said: “Arsenal’s winning run had to come to an end sooner rather than later but the Gunners saved the bookies’ bacon yesterday with a treble along with Chelsea and Manchester United proving very popular.”
Chelsea swept aside Burnley and Manchester United beat Everton, meaning Kindred Group were also pleased to avoid a hat-trick of defeats on Sunday.
The firm’s Ali Gill told EGR Intel: “Kindred had a strong weekend in the Premier League, led by the headline 2-2 draw between Palace and Arsenal, which took a fair few accas with it as Arsenal were on a fine run in the lead up to the game.
“All in all, six of the nine games played so far went to us against the punters,” he added.
William Hill’s Rupert Adams revealed the operator won narrowly on both days despite taking an online hit in the football on Saturday.
Adams said: “Saturday was a small win for us overall. We lost online, largely because our ‘Super Odds’ offer of Liverpool, Bournemouth and Birmingham came in.
“Retail was better even though the top five most popular selections won, with Preston and West Brom not winning the key for us.
“Sunday was a bit better, largely thanks to Arsenal letting a 2-1 lead slip against Crystal Palace, but overall it was a below average weekend.”
The layers cleaned up in the European Championship Darts event this weekend, with world number one Michael van Gerwen knocked out early.
Kindred’s Gill said: “The Unibet European Championship Darts threw up a few very layer-friendly results, the highlight being the early elimination of perennial favourite MvG at the hands of Steve West.
“The match, which was both our biggest turnover and biggest winning tie of the event, drove us towards an overall healthy margin in Germany.”

On the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Mexico, Gill added: “Lewis Hamilton finally confirmed the inevitable by clinching his fifth title, which was a hit we have been waiting a good few weeks to have confirmed.”
