
Spain GGR up 30% in Q3 as online casino and sports betting surge
Advertising spend rises by more than 92% during the quarter


Spanish online GGR grew 29.86% year-on-year during the third quarter of 2018, according to new figures released by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ).
GGR for the period topped €181.7m, with the largest revenue rise in online casino, which grew by 39% y-o-y to €60.8m. The vertical contributed around a third of Spanish GGR during the quarter.
Sports betting revenues rose 27% to €97.6m, contributing over 53%% of total Spanish online GGR during the period.
Marketing spend during the quarter topped €75.8m, buoyed by a 92% rise in advertising spend, which topped €36.3m during Q3 and a 83% rise in sponsorship spending to €3.5m.
Poker revenues also rose sharply during the quarter, jumping 35% y-o-y to €19.8m from a previous Q3 2017 high of €14.6m. During the quarter, poker revenues contributed 10.9% of total Spanish online gaming GGR.
The number of active users in Spain also increased by 30.71% during the quarter, rising to 812,007.
