Hills secures 18% of all clicks on the opening race of Cheltenham thanks to its seven places concession

William Hill won a fierce battle for customer attention on the first race of Cheltenham yesterday, with the operator securing 18.2% of all customer clicks through Oddschecker on the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
Hills was offering seven places on the race, while Sky Bet offered money back as cash on all losing bets, helping it secure the third-most clicks at 9.4%. bet365 was second with 15.8% of clicks.
Black Type also punched above its weight, securing 4.5% of all clicks.
Extra places also proved a good acquisition tool in the Close Brothers at 4.50, where Sky Bet offered and secured 22.4% clickshare versus bet365 in 2nd with 19% and Will Hill in 3rd at 8%
For the whole day, bet365 topped the market with 17.5% share – thanks in part to an aggressive 105.6% overround – followed by Sky Bet in 2nd with 11.2% clickshare and Hills in 3rd. Paddy Power and BetVictor completed the top five.
Marathonbet actually led the way with the lowest overround on the Champion Hurdle at 105% although it did not help the firm crack the top ten in clickshare, coming at 3.3%.
The best-performing offer of the day was MoPlay’s Sky Bet-esque £20 back in cash for new customers who lose on the Supreme.
Oddschecker is donating 5p from every Cheltenham bet of more than £1 placed through the site to the Injured Jockey’s Fund.
