OpenBet breaks Grand National record with 62,000 bets per minute
NYX-owned sportsbook supplier sees activity records smashed as mobile staking grows 63%
OpenBet handled some 22 million sports bets across all channels on the day of the Grand National race, the recently-acquired sportsbook supplier has revealed.
Saturday’s betting activity easily exceeded 2015’s Grand National Day, as OpenBet processed 62,000 bets per minute in the 24-hour period – an increase of 27% from last year.
OpenBet said it processed a total of 60.5 million account transactions, an uplift of 14% from 12 months ago, with an average of 75% of all remote bets being made via the mobile channel – up from 63% in 2015.
Last week OpenBet was acquired by NYX Gaming Group in a deal which was in part funded by William Hill and Sky Betting & Gaming.
And its CEO Jeremy Thompson-Hill said the OpenBet platform had stood up well to the test brought by the surge in activity across all channels, with no downtime reported.
“The Grand National is a critical event for our customers. It places huge demands on our industry and once again we have shown that OpenBet has the ability to handle the most important events seamlessly,” said Thompson-Hill.
“Saturday was the busiest racing day ever for Sky Bet so we were delighted with how the Grand National went this year. The OpenBet platform was a key reason for this record breaking weekend,” Richard Flint, CEO of Sky Betting & Gaming, said.
Last month OpenBet saw record Cheltenham Festival figures when it handled 31,000,000 total sports bets and 173,000,000 account transactions during the four days of the 2016 festival.
