Betway secures two Portuguese gambling licences
Sports betting and games of chance to be available on operator’s dedicated Portuguese website

Betway has been granted two licences in Portugal to offer sports betting and games of chance such as blackjack and roulette.
The Portuguese gambling regulator (SRIJ) confirmed that it issued GM Gaming Limited with the pair of licences on 31 January 2020 for the website www.betway.pt.
The licences are both valid for three years until 30 January 2023, although the website is not yet live.
The SRIJ statement read: “At a meeting held on 31 January 2020, [we] decided to issue GM Gaming Limited a licence for the operation of sports betting and a licence to explore games of chance on the website: www.betway.pt.”
This marks Betway’s first foray into the Portuguese market after having made strides in neighbouring Spain, where the firm sponsors three La Liga clubs: Alavés, Levante and Leganés.
The Malta-headquartered firm is also the principal sponsor of Premier League club West Ham United.
Betway also holds licences in various European markets such as the UK, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Malta and Sweden.
