PointsBet enters Michigan with local tribe partnership
Operator will launch mobile betting and casino apps in partnership with the LVD tribe via a 20-year deal

PointsBet has entered Michigan’s gambling market in partnership with local casino tribe Lac Vieux Desert Public Enterprise and Finance Commission (LVD).
Under the 20-year partnership, the Australia-based operator will soon launch its mobile betting app in the state under LVD’s local license.
A PointsBet and LVD-branded online casino app will also be established once gaming regulations are finalized.
The operator is also in negotiations with the tribe to build a retail sportsbook at its Northern Waters Casino Resort in Watersmeet.
PointsBet will pay betting and gaming market fees to LVD, as well as a portion of both online product’s net gaming revenues.
It will also cover initial licensing and regulatory costs required for the launch.
PointsBet Group CEO Sam Swanell said: “PointsBet is pleased to have reached agreement for both online sportsbook and online casino operations with such a forward-thinking Tribe, and we look forward to many years of great success working together in Michigan.”
James Williams Jr, Lac Vieux Desert tribal chairman, said: “The Tribe is excited to join forces with PointsBet to further the Tribe’s economic development efforts and expand gaming online as allowable under Michigan and federal law.
“We are confident that this new opportunity will strengthen the Tribe’s self-sufficiency and self-determination efforts and provide much needed revenue to continue to expand and enhance tribal governmental services as well as provide jobs for the LVD community,” he said.
Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation legalizing online betting and gaming in the state in December.
