Exclusive: Ladbrokes Coral restructures sports division as marketing director departs
New MD Dominic Grounsell revamps sports leadership team and adds brand marketing function as Alexis Zamboglou leaves operator

GVC has restructured its sports brands leadership team for Ladbrokes Coral in Gibraltar, resulting in the departure of marketing director Alexis Zamboglou.
GVC’s recently appointed MD for UK and Eire sports brands Dominic Grounsell has created a new brand marketing function, with Zamboglou’s position to be split into two separate roles: brand director and performance director.
Grounsell originally joined Ladbrokes Coral as CMO in April 2019 and has appointed marketing veteran Dominic Chambers as brand marketing director on an interim basis as Grounsell transitions to his new MD role.
EGR understands Grounsell, who reports into GVC CMO Adam Lewis, offered Zamboglou the brand director role but declined to pursue other opportunities within the gambling industry.
The new brand marketing function will be made up of four teams: Ladbrokes brand marketing, Coral brand marketing, customer experience, and strategy and business development.
Ladbrokes brand marketing will now be led by Stewart Townsend, who arrived at GVC in a head of brand and partnerships role from Manchester United in April 2019.
Mike Sheehan, currently head of marketing for Ladbrokes, will take interim charge of Coral brand marketing as Grounsell looks for a permanent appointment.
Sheehan will eventually become the head of strategy and business development, which is an entirely new department within the structure.
Richard Clarke will remain in charge of the customer experience segment.
As part of the reshuffle, the Ladbrokes Coral promotions team will be integrated into the sportsbook department from the marketing department, signalling a clear switch in strategy from the operator.
GVC will publish its Q2 2019 financial results tomorrow.
