Esports Entertainment Group recruits new head of marketing and esports
Online gaming veteran Magnus Leppäniemi joins flagship brand Vie.gg from Swedish marketing firm Wehype
Esports Entertainment Group has hired Magnus Leppäniemi as VP of marketing and head of esports for its flagship Vie.gg wagering platform.
Leppäniemi joins the Malta-based firm from Wehype where he served as global sales director since September 2019.
Prior to this, Leppäniemi worked for esports tournament and convention specialists DreamHack for five years across its Swedish and US offices.
Speaking on his arrival, Esports Entertainment Group CEO Grant Johnson said Leppäniemi possesses “invaluable knowledge of the gaming and esports industry”.
Johnson continued: “Over more than two decades in gaming, Magnus has built an extensive network of relationships that could provide tremendous value as we execute on our global growth strategy.”
Leppäniemi commented that he was “very excited” to be joining the company and highlighted how esports betting will continue to grow following its popular expansion during the coronavirus sports shutdown.
“We want to build trust with the players, fans, teams, publishers, and the community and give them a unique esports experience. Esports betting is here to stay, and we want to build the premier platform in the industry that benefits the gaming and esports communities. I look forward to accelerating our marketing efforts, refining our go-to-market models, and building out our esports initiatives,” he said.
