Industry-first Apple TV gambling app launched by Betsson

Operator believes dedicated Betsafe app will âset the standardâ for the gaming industry
Betsson has become the first operator to launch a gambling app specifically for Apple TV, which it believes will âset the standardâ for the egaming industry.
The operatorâs Betsafe brand launched the Live Dealer Roulette app yesterday (19 May), initially in Sweden but with additional markets to follow.
Ulrik Bengtsson, CEO of Betsson AB, said the launch of the product will âmost likely set the standard for the entire gaming industry [going] forwardâ.
And speaking to EGR this morning, chief commercial officer of Betsson Malta, Jesper Svensson, said the firm saw real potential in the Apple TV market.
âSeeing the opportunity created by this new platform, we decided to make the move and be the pioneers in this new born market,â he said.
âAccording to Apple itself, the quarter after the Apple TV release was their best quarter ever. With just a few thousand apps yet on the Apple TVâs app store and no real gambling app, we are not fulfilling a demand but creating it and setting the standard for future competitors to follow.â
The stand-alone app allows users to play directly from their television, without the need for a desktop or smartphone.
It also includes a social offering, allowing users to invite up to six players to play on the same Apple TV screen by pairing iPhones.
âItâs shifting the act of playing casino at home from a single player experience to a more social and interactive experience,â added Svensson.
The firm is looking to expand its offering on Apple TV and aims to launch the app into other countries it operates in âquicklyâ.
âClearly this is not a Sweden-only effort, there will be more markets coming soon,â said Svensson.
âOur ambition is to provide the best customer experience in the industry, and by being in the forefront with this type of development, we hope our customers will feel this is what we are truly providing them with.â
Earlier in the year, PokerStars entered the Apple TV market by launching an app allowing players to watch 24-hour poker broadcasts from PokerStarsâ tournaments around the world.
