Brentford boss expresses concerns about football's relationship with gambling
Bees’ manager Thomas Frank says there needs to be more education on the matter coupled with “clear rules”

Thomas Frank has expressed concerns about football’s relationship with gambling on the back of Ivan Toney’s FA investigation being leaked to the media last week.
Toney was originally charged with 232 breaches of FA rule E8 in November, with a further 30 charges added in December, and it had emerged last week that he had pleaded guilty to some of the charges.
The Premier League striker then took to his Instagram to express his disappointment around the details of the leaked hearing and has said his lawyers will contact the FA to launch an investigation into the leaks.
His manager Frank had added to this feeling and has questioned the timing of these leaks given that the original leak came just before Gareth Southgate named his World Cup squad and the second comes just before the March International break.
Following this, Frank also spoke about his concerns regarding football’s relationship to gambling.
The Dane argued that there needs to be a clear set of rules around gambling in football and that there needs to be more education on the matter.
He commented: “I think it’s an issue that football and betting are so closely linked in other sporting industries. I think it’s not right, from my perspective, and I think there was some really good articles from iNews and The Guardian about the influence of gambling on footballers and what it does.
“I think the education part, in general, is crucial for everyone, because there has been a lot of cases where it potentially could have been different.”
