
Spain Q4 GGR hits record levels following strong betting and casino performance
Sports betting revenue soared by 223% year on year while new player accounts also rose by 23% in impressive reporting period


Gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the Spanish market rose 78.2% year on year (YoY) in Q4 2022, as major verticals saw sizeable increases during the final three months of the year.
The data provided by Spain’s gambling regulator, the Director General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), showed that GGR for the final quarter of 2022 amounted to €313.3m (£273.6m), which is a record for the Iberian nation.
Examining GGR by vertical, sports betting revenue rose by 223.4% YoY to €141.4m. This figure also represents a 52.8% increase quarter over quarter.
Casino accounted for €142.3m of total GGR, rising 32.4% YoY, and an increase of 11.1% on Q3 2022.
Bingo GGR jumped by 11.5% to €3.6m. While poker experienced a rise of 26.8% YoY, reaching €26.05m for Q4.
Elsewhere, new player registrations saw a considerable drop in Q4 2022, with 131,095 people signing up for new accounts during the reporting period, resulting in a 21.6% YoY decrease.
Overall marketing expenditure rose by 13.9% YoY to €106.4m. Promotions accounted for the lion’s share of operator’s marketing output at €51.7m.
The DGOJ noted that in Q4 2022, there were 78 licensed operators in the country.
The regulator also announced results for full-year 2022.
Bolstered by a strong second half of the year, GGR was €962.96m, which is an increase of 18.1% on 2021.
Deposits and withdrawals rose by 19.6% and 21.1%, respectively.
Marketing spending across the year fell by 19.3% to €372.04m while the number of active players rose by 8.3% to 1,593,846.
