GAMSTOP announces record monthly self-exclusion figures for March 2023
Ahead of its fifth anniversary, the scheme reveals more than 8,500 people registered for GAMSTOP

A record 8,504 people signed up for the UK self-exclusion scheme GAMSTOP in March 2023, the highest monthly figure since the service launched in April 2018.
March’s figure represents a 24% year-on-year (YoY) increase on those who self-excluded in March 2022, with a total of over 365,000 people have chosen to excluded themselves from online gambling sites via GAMSTOP since its launch.
Of that figure, almost 330,000 people are still excluded on the system.
The scheme states that it believes the surge in registrations in March was due to the Cheltenham Festival, which took place between 14 March and 17 March. It was noted that the biggest uptick in registrations occurred in the immediate aftermath of the festival.
Fiona Palmer, CEO of GAMSTOP, said: “Our most recent data shows that five years after our inception, GAMSTOP is providing an increasingly important service to potentially vulnerable consumers who want to take a break from gambling. The record monthly registrations shows that we cannot underestimate the demand for a scheme such as GAMSTOP.
“It is extremely important that we continue to raise awareness to make sure that anyone who needs us knows about us. We also need to continue to listen to our users and develop and improve the scheme to meet their needs.”
