Lottoland hires German lottery veteran for liberalisation push
Gibraltar-based lottery operator appoints former German Lotto chief Dr Rolf Stypmann as company spokesperson

Lottoland has appointed German lottery veteran Dr Rolf Stypmann (pictured) to the role of company spokesperson as the nascent lottery operator steps up calls for liberalisation of the German lottery market.
Stypmann joins Lottoland following a 24-year stint in the German lottery sector where he was most recently managing director of Lotto Niedersachen having previously held similar roles with other state lotteries including Mecklenburg-Vorpomern and Schleswig-Holstein.
In his new role, the former judge will be tasked with leading the calls for the liberalisation of Germany’s state-controlled lottery market as well as representing the interests of Gibraltar-based Lottoland among media organisations.
“Through its monopoly, the state lottery companies have been resting on their laurels and generating revenue without adapting their product to the need of their customers,” Stypmann said upon joining Lottoland.
“It has been shown in other countries that there is no justification for a state monopoly in the German sector and together with Lottoland I stand for a regulated and controlled opening of the German lottery market,” he added.
Nigel Birrell, CEO of Lottoland, said the appointment of Stypmann would prove to be of “great value” to a company only formed in 2012 and reflected the “significant change” underway in the sector.
The appointment of Stypmann comes after Lottoland hired former BetVictor head of CRM Leonard Junkins for the role of senior CRM manager in July.
Lottoland recently attempted to ramp-up its presence in the UK market after signing former Who Wants to be a Millionaire host Chris Tarrant as its UK brand ambassador.
