PokerStars launches licensed Bulgarian site
Launch coincides with release of poker operator's latest beta desktop software, PokerStars 7
PokerStars has this morning launched to players in Bulgaria after being granted an online operating licence by the country’s State Commission on Gambling back in February.
PokerStars.bg is the first poker site to go live after the country revamped its Gambling Act at the start of the year to attract more foreign investment.
“PokerStars strives to be first-in-market when online poker licenses are made available and we’re proud to be the first locally licensed poker site in Bulgaria,” Eric Hollreiser, head of corporate communications for Stars’ parent company the Rational Group, said.
“We believe in the potential of the Bulgarian market and that is why our company has invested in the local licence. Regulation provides peace of mind for players and ensures that local regulators can protect consumers and collect much-needed revenue,” he added.
The Bulgaria launch coincides with the release of PokerStars latest beta desktop software, PokerStars 7, available to players in dot.com, dot.eu, and dot.es markets using Windows PCs.
Stars said the new beta software has a more refined look and feel compared to the previous client and includes a number of added features such as a new QuickSeat option, chip graphs and an improved live events tab.
“Over the last few years, we have invested countless hours to research, design and develop this new iteration of our flagship software,” Lee Jones, PokerStars head of poker communications, said. “We believe this release is friendlier for new players and more intuitive and powerful for our veterans.”
Last week Amaya Gaming’s US$4.9bn acquisition of Rational Group and parent company Oldford Group was completed, less than two months after the deal was first announced to the market.
