Weizer: Playtech will be number one in sports betting
Playtech chief exec Mor Weizer states aim for 2014 after entering "advanced negotiations" with potential Geneity licensees
Playtech chief executive Mor Weizer says his company aims to be the market leader in sports betting solutions by the end of the year as its Geneity sportsbook platform closes in on a number of new licensees.
Speaking to eGaming Review, Weizer said that the product has been endorsed by current partners with Sportium, the Spanish joint-venture between Ladbrokes and Cirsa, electing to use the platform rather than stay with its incumbent supplier.
“We definitely intend to establish ourselves as the market leader in the sports space,” Weizer said. “At the end of the day, there’s a significant opportunity for us outside of the UK as well as in some markets where online betting is already regulated.”
Weizer also revealed the egaming supplier was in advanced negotiations with “recognisable operators”, with at least one deal expected to be announced before the company’s interim results, which are expected around April.
“We’re talking about names that will be recognised, as well as established sports betting operators,” he said.
The news comes after the firm this morning announced a 26% increase in full-year profits to 148.3m as sportsbook operations grew 61% over the course of 2013 to 17.1m driven by its Mobenga mobile sportsbook product.
During an analyst call following the announcement, Weizer said the demand for sportsbook solutions was currently the “strongest I have ever seen”, with several firms having an expressed an interest in both its Geneity and Mobenga products.
Ladbrokes completed its migration to the Mobenga mobile platform in December last year as the UK bookmaker continued to progress with its migration to Playtech’s full portfolio of egaming products, and eGR understands the platform is performing ahead of expectations.
