
Lord Faulkner appointed new chair of Alderney regulator
Lord Faulkner to replace retiring John Godfrey as AGCC chairman, Christopher Moger also joins the regulatory body
Lord Faulkner of Worcester has been named the new chairman of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) for a five-year term, replacing incumbent John Godfrey who is to retire in May this year.
Godfrey was the Commission’s first chairman and is set to stand down after 14 years in the position with Faulkner selected to step up from his current role as AGCC member of the Commission.
Lord Faulkner, who served as a government minister from 2009 to 2010, will combine his new role with duties as an active Labour peer and deputy speaker in the House of Lords.
Lord Faulkner has a background in gaming regulation having been a member of the joint parliamentary scrutiny committee for the draft gambling bill in the lead up to 2005’s Gambling Act, and is also a member of the betting and gaming group and a former trustee of problem gambling support agency Gamcare.
Christopher Moger QC has been appointed to fill Lord Faulkner’s position as Commission member having previously served as an advisor to the Gambling Commission for casino licensing and gaming, betting and lottery law.
Moger has been a Queen’s Counsel since 1992 and practices in commercial litigation and international arbitration.
