Skrill withdraws from Canadian egaming market
Payment provider will stop processing transactions from players in Canada from 2 January 2014 as it focuses on US operations

Online payments provider Skrill will stop processing payments related to online gambling transactions in Canada from 2 January 2014 after reviewing its operations in the country.
Skrill, which was recently licensed to offer its services in New Jersey, is advising players to withdraw funds from their accounts before the cut-off date.
Skrill, which was formerly known as Moneybookers, said it remains committed to the gaming sector and in September announced it was looking to capitalise on the newly regulated US market following the appointment of Joe Hall as vice-president sales for its US arm.
“Skrill can confirm that it will no longer be processing gambling payments for Canada. From 2 January 2014, it will not be possible to use Skrill to make payments to gambling merchants. Outgoing payments from gambling merchants will be disabled on 31 January 2014,” a Skrill spokesperson told eGaming Review.
“Skrill has made this decision following a review of its operations and remains committed to working with the gaming sector and will continue to partner with merchants in order to support their evolving business needs,” the spokesperson added.
In July, CVC Capital Partners, the private equity firm behind the unsuccessful bid for Betfair, paid 600m (£511m) to acquire a 75% shareholding in Skrill.
