Tabcorp completes Tab Active acquisition
Australian operator acquires TV wagering service for AU$863,000
Former Australian monopoly Tabcorp has acquired television wagering service Tab Active from casino operator Donaco International for AU$863,000.
The service links to Sky racing channels through a Foxtel TV subscription and allows users to place bets on horse racing using their remote control. Bets will be able to be staked by users in all Australian states except Tasmania.
Having operated for five years, the system uses betting engines of Tabcorp, TattsBet and Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), and is expected to compliment Tabcorp’s existing portfolio of smatphone applications and websites.
Mobile sports betting contributed towards a 13% year-on-year increase in online turnover for Tabcorp in Q3 last year, continuing the company’s steady progress in online revenues. Tabcorp had previously announced a 15.9% increase in online turnover for H1 2013.
Operators in Australia have been forced to contend with growing constraints in recent months, with both Western Australia and South Australia moving to ban live gambling adverts after the country’s government proposed the ban in June this year.
