Sullivan retires from Boyd Gaming
Senior-vice president will remain at operator as consultant to oversee online launch in New Jersey
Boyd Gaming’s Kevin Sullivan, the man responsible for establishing its online partnership with bwin.party, has retired after more than 16 years at the operator.
He will remain with the company as a consultant until the end of the year to oversee the launch of online gaming on behalf of Boyd’s New Jersey property, the Borgata.
Sullivan has been a prominent advocate of online gaming in the US over recent years and was instrumental in Boyd’s pioneering three-way online poker deal with MGM Resorts and bwin.party in 2011.
The partnership sees bwin.party and the US casino groups “jointly offer” online poker in the US on a state-by-state basis.
However with just Nevada up and running with legal online gambling “ a state whose value to the company Boyd CEO Keith Smith has publically questioned “ the deal has yet to come to fruition. Attention has therefore turned to New Jersey for the operator to launch its first egaming offering.
Sullivan joined Boyd Gaming in 1997 from Fremont Street Experience where he was CFO. He previously held senior financial roles within the banking sector.
His replacement is expected to be named before the end of the year.
