Five minutes with…Gary Emmerson of Catena Media
This month's quickfire Q&A comes courtesy of Gary Emmerson, head of emerging markets at Catena Media

Q: What makes Catena Media a great partner for affiliates?
The dedicated staff located across the world who are driven to make a success of our relationships with operators. Couple that with the dynamic and varied products that Catena has to offer, and we provide endless opportunities to generate leads for our affiliate partners.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
The diversity of it. No two days are the same. Plus, the opportunity to have input into, and help develop, products that deliver results for our partners, as well as what our readers or viewers want.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring affiliate manager, what would it be?
Be proactive. If an affiliate has to chase you for offers or promotions, you’re losing time to maximise generating leads and new customers. Especially in the sometimes time-sensitive industry we are in.
Q: Who would play you in the movie about your life?
I’d love it to be Morgan Freeman, my favourite actor. Although we have very little in common looks wise!

Q: What’s your karaoke song of choice?
Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. Dull and unlikely to liven the party, but it is my go-to song!
Q: Which one thing can’t you live without?
My phone.
Q: Who would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?
Kylie Minogue or comedian Katherine Ryan.
Q: Where would you time travel to and why?
I’d love to time travel to 1973 and watch Sunderland actually win at Wembley. In my entire lifetime, it’s been defeats every time we’ve gone there so it would be nice to see a win.
Q: What is your favourite TV programme?
Anything sports related, Dragons Den or Who Do You Think You Are?
Q: What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Cheesy 90s pop music.
Q: If you won the lottery, what would you spend the money on?
The usual scenario of treating my family first, then a small farm or place with some land for animals. Plus some new golf gear.
Q: Name one place everyone should visit before they die.
My home town Sunderland and the Stadium of Light, the home of football! Being serious, I’d recommend Langkawi in Malaysia for an idyllic getaway.
