Optimove iGaming Pulse Report: Average sports deposits up from €40 to €142 in France
In a monthly column, Optimove looks at how casino and sports KPIs performed in October 2021
The French don’t usually do things half-heartedly. They’re unique, they know it and when they go in, they’re all-in. Looking at the October data, one figure stood out – the French are back with a whopping €142 average deposit compared to the overall average of just €40.
They do it in just 5.7 monthly deposits, which is lower than the overall average of 9.9. That brings their average deposit to €25 compared to €4.4 overall.
“Fine,” you may say, “but Spain, UK, and Italy are no different.” To which we’d reply, “not true, they averaged a monthly spend of €51, €57 and €39 respectively. Ireland comes close, but not really, with €118”.
And sure, you could still argue, “looking at the graph below, the French averaged €150 in July. So there,” to which we’ll retort, “Yes, but in October there were no Olympics and/or Euro tournament”.
Lastly, when we looked at the October 2020 figure for some comfort, we found it stood at €54 (still above the current average), of course, that was at the height of the pandemic, but still, something is going on here.
As the French break away from the rest of the continent (Frexit, if you will) and go all-in, we’ll definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Sports KPIs
Monthly deposits
The average number of monthly deposits for sports bettors increased by 4% MoM and increased by 14% YoY, now standing at 9.9 monthly deposits per player.
Monthly net gaming revenue per player
There has been a decrease of 9% MoM in average revenue per active player and a decrease of 13% YoY, now standing at €75 per player.
Average deposit amount
The average deposit amount for sports players decreased by 2% MoM and increased by 14% YoY, now standing at €40.
Retention rates
Retention rates for sports bettors have remained the same MoM and increased by 1% YoY, now standing at 69%.
New retention rates
New retention rates have increased by 2% MoM and remained the same YoY, now standing at 42%.
Conversion rates
Conversion rates decreased by 4% both MoM and YoY, now standing at 46%.
Number of activity days
This month, the number of activity days increased by 4% MoM and by 13% YoY, now standing at 8.6.
Mobile bet rate
For this report, this KPI is defined as the total mobile bet amount during September, divided by the total bet amount. Looking at the data, the rate increased by 4% MoM and increased by 16% YoY, now standing at 73%.
Casino KPIs
Average deposit amount
The average deposit amount for casino players increased by 5% MoM and increased by 14% YoY, now standing at €42.
Monthly deposit per player
The average number of monthly deposits per player in August increased by 5% MoM and by 12% YoY, now standing at 10.1 deposits per player.
Monthly revenue
The average net gaming revenue per active player decreased by 5% MoM and 4% YoY, now standing at €87.
Conversion rates
Conversion rates remained the same MoM and increased by 2% YoY, now standing at 43%.
Retention rates
Retention rates have remained the same MoM and increased by 4% YoY, now standing at 71%.
New retention rates
New retention rates increased by 5% MoM and by 11% YoY, now standing at 41%.
Number of activity days
The number of activity days increased by 4% MoM and by 13% YoY, now standing at 7.6.
