Optimove iGaming Pulse: New players' retention rate drops YoY
In a monthly column, Optimove looks at how casino and sports KPIs performed in February 2023
New customers are notoriously hard to retain. That is true in retail and even more so in igaming, which often offers little differentiation for players. Finding a way to ramp up relevancy and player personalisation is vital, as evident from the new players’ retention rate metric, which dropped YoY with both sports (-14%) and casino bettors (-5%).
This month, Optimove introduced new KPIs and a fresh Pulse look, empowering operators to better understand the industry with even more metrics, in a more digestible form. For example, operators can now get a breakdown of sports and casino bettors and find out just how much the average player stakes on a single bet over a month.
We now know that in February 27% of sports bettors placed over €100 worth of total monthly bets, compared to 42% on the casino side. Twenty percent of casino bettors wagered over €350 in February, compared to 12% on the sports side. What about a single bet? Only 15% of sports bettors bet more than €30, compared to 24% on the casino side.

The average bet amount deposits for sports bettors decreased by 14.1% MoM and by 19% YoY, now at €548.
Average number of bets per active player
The average number of bets for sports bettors decreased by 8.7% MoM and increased by 8% YoY, now at 262.
Average net gaming revenue per active player
The average net gaming revenue per sports bettor decreased by 32.4% MoM and increased by 19% YoY, now at €32.5.
Average number of activity days per active customer
The average number of activity days per sports bettor decreased by 7.2% MoM and increased by 1% YoY, now at 6.6.

Casino KPIs
Average bet amount per active player
The average bet amount deposits for casino bettors decreased by 9.5% MoM and increased by 2% YoY, now at €1,302.
Average number of bets per active player
The average number of bets for casino bettors decreased by 6.4% MoM and increased by 10% YoY, now at 967.
Monthly net gaming revenue per player
There has been a decrease of 4.3% MoM in average net gaming revenue per active player and 9% increase YoY, now at €79.5.
Average number of activity days per active customer
The average number of activity days per casino bettor decreased by 4.4% MoM and increased by 10% YoY, now at 5.8.
