Optimove World Cup Pulse: France records +600% change in total bet amount
Optimove presents the latest KPI data from its newly launched World Cup Pulse tool

The French team is doing well, and you don’t actually need to follow the World Cup closely to know that; it’s enough to look at the World Cup Pulse.
As the Tricolor gained momentum through the tournament, so did French fans, who are placing increasingly higher sums, which must mean they have complete faith in their team. How complete? Some 600% up from the June 2022 baseline. They are leading all nations by a country mile. A very distant second is the US at around +150%.
When the French go in, they go all in. As we’re entering the quarter-final stage, it’ll be interesting to see just how high the total bet amount will go. When it comes to France, the sky is the limit, both on the pitch and off.

Number of bettors and bet amount change
In this global view, you can see just how unique the French behaviour is. While the number of bettors is rising globally, it’s still much lower than in France (note the percentage of change). The total bet amount is declining globally, around 50% of the June 2022 baseline.
Bet distribution by type
The global live versus pre-match betting trend splits right down the middle. But Mexico showed a massive spike (+28%) in live betting on 2 December, which corresponded with the Brazil and Uruguay matches. Could that be the reason behind the dramatic change?
Bet amount by channel
Globally the web/mobile trend is steady at 15-85% in favour of mobile. It’s interesting to note a recent trend in Austria. In line with Germany’s last match (2 December), we have detected more bets on the web (27%) and a slow return to normal levels in the following days.
Weekly number of first-time depositors – global
This chart shows new players joining in on the action and a 47% drop in first-time depositors. This downturn occurred in almost every nation we’re looking at except Sweden, which recorded a slight 2% uptick. Could that trend change direction as we enter the final stages?
Reactivation – weekly number of active customers change
We can assume that this far into the tournament if a bettor was to be reactivated, it had already happened. Following a peak in reactivation at 4.6%, we see a drop back to 3.3%.
While we detected a drop in every nation, none was sharper than Brazil’s:

Retention – weekly number of active customers change – global
Bettors’ interest level is high, and operators’ ability to retain them follows. We’re detecting an upward trend in every nation, with Brazil again leading the percentage of change with 139%.
