Optimove World Cup Pulse: Global new players up 75%
Optimove presents the latest KPI data from its newly launched World Cup Pulse tool

We already know this tournament is a bit of a tale of two halves. On the one hand, exciting goals-galore games and unprecedented upsets while we also experienced some goalless draws. The record number of 0-0 draws at the World Cup currently stands at seven (and it happened four times before), but Qatar is already thereabouts with five.
As the action on the pitch kicks up a notch, so does the data on the World Cup Pulse. New players keep coming in large numbers almost across the board. While the overall rate shows 89% (+75% rise), leading all nations are Austria (257%), Belgium (243%), Portugal (214%), Greece (195%), thd US (181%), Spain (149%), Poland, (141%) and Brazil (103%). While other nations made smaller gains in that category, it’s interesting to note that Canada is showing a negative 1% in new player change compared to the June 2022 baseline. See the global chart below:
Average bet amount per bettor
This chart shows that following a drop, which corresponded with the tournament kick off (and actually indicated a wave of new players coming in), the average sum stabilised at around 10% lower than our June 2022 average.
Interesting to note that while Italy didn’t qualify for the World Cup, Italian bettors are gaining momentum and recent days show an upward trend.

Bet amount distribution by bet type
Distribution of the sums deposited shows live betting has a slight edge, with 53%. The average may tilt more in that direction as we approach the even more exciting stages.
But you have to love outliers. While the global average shows, you know, the average, just have a look at what’s happening in Romania, their most recent update shows 83% in favour of live betting.

Bet amount distribution by channel
Looking at the global average, 84% of bets come from mobile and that appears steady:
Turkey, which didn’t qualify, appears to prefer mobile even more than the rest of the world. Their last update shows 93% of bets coming from mobile.
Global retention – weekly number of active customers change
Average retention rate is steady at 74% overall and no change from last week.

Global reactivation – weekly number of reactivated players change – global
Dormant players join in on the action with a nice uptick of 59% (23% to 82%) in the number of reactivated players (weren’t active last week) globally as the average reactivation rate stands at 3.2%.
