AGCOM completes board reshuffle as SuperEnalotto concession is extended
Italian advertising authority nets new president while government hands increased powers to gambling regulator ADM

The Italian government has appointed Giacomo Lasorella as the new president of advertising and telecommunications regulator AGCOM.
A prominent Italian civil servant, Lasorella has worked as deputy secretary general of the Italian parliament since July 2015 and has more than 20 years’ experience in the Italian legislature.
Lasorella’s selection completes an overhaul at AGCOM following the appointment of Laura Aria, Elisa Giomi, Antonello Giacomelli and Enrico Mandelli to its board earlier this month.
AGCOM has primary responsibility for advertising regulation in Italy, including enforcement of the gambling ad ban, which came into force in July 2019.
Elsewhere, the Italian government has extended the current SuperEnalotto concession to 1 December 2021, when a new concessionary will take over.
The current SuperEnalotto concession is operated by Sisal Group after it won a tender process in July 2019, fending off competition from Lottomatica and Sazka Group.
The Italian government has committed to carrying out a tender process for the forthcoming SuperEnalotto concession by December 2020.
In addition, the country’s government has granted primary gambling regulator ADM new and increased powers to block illegal online gambling sites targeting Italian consumers.
In May, Italy greenlit a new 0.5% emergency tax on sports betting turnover.
