ANJ asks operators to implement €100 welcome bonus limit
French regulator implements series of guidelines as it looks to further protect players

The French regulator ANJ has called on operators to stop offering bonuses to customers who gamble excessively, as well as limiting welcome offers to €100.
In a series of instructions and non-binding requests, the regulator is aiming to improve its player protection framework.
The ANJ has asked operators not to provide bonuses to customers that display “excessive or pathological” gambling habits, and to remain cautious over offering bonuses to those who have recently self-excluded.
The regulator will also require operators to include “substantial information” around bonus offers to ensure customers fully comprehend the terms of the agreement.
This information includes the offer’s duration, the nature of the reward and whether customers must adhere to other conditions to receive the offer, such as making a deposit.
Additionally, the ANJ said that any bonus offer that “omits, conceals or provides material information in an unintelligible, ambiguous or out of time manner” would be banned.
Although operators are not bound to do so, the ANJ has also implored those in the market to limit welcome bonuses to €100, either a single offer or as a package.
The ANJ has additionally asked for bonuses and loyalty programmes to become less reliant on the individual customer’s gambling intensity, such as duration of play and bet volume.
