ARJEL set to name new president this week
Two candidates thought to be in line for the role following the resignation of former president Jean-François Vilotte

French online gambling regulator l’Autorité de regulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL) is expected to name its new president this week with two candidates currently in the running for the post, eGaming Review understands.
Charles Coppolani, head of economic and financial control for the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Maurice Meda, former vice-president of the French Commission for Energy Regulation (CRE), are both rumoured to be in line to replace former president Jean-François Vilotte.
Vilotte announced his departure from the French regulator in December after three years’ service and officially stepped down from the role earlier this month to pursue a career in the private sector.
Vilotte was hired as president of the French regulator in May 2010 having previously worked as director general at the French Tennis Federation from 2007 to 2009 and also held a number of positions in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
His departure came despite having two years left to serve in the role and followed a complete restructuring of ARJEL in October as the regulator looks to better meet the needs of the regulated online gambling industry.
In separate news, ARJEL also announced today the launch of a new multimedia campaign to discourage the public from playing on illegal online gambling sites and to inform of the risks associated these unverified sites.
The campaign will feature two weeks of radio spots, three newspaper adverts and an internet video clip which will all aim to highlight the dangers of cheating and the potential of personal and banking data theft.
ARJEL was unavailable to comment at the time of writing.
