Atari shelves plans for online crypto casino
Board of directors decides premium gaming content is “better representative of Atari DNA” than online gambling

Games console specialist Atari’s short-lived venture into the online gambling industry is over.
The New York City-based firm confirmed its plans to launch Atari Casino had been scrapped as part of a wider strategic review on product output.
Atari Casino, first announced in April 2020, promised to be the “best online casino experience to date” and would feature classic casino content, as well as live casino and cryptocurrency capabilities.
Atari even developed its own cryptocurrency to be used on the platform, the Atari Token.
The board of directors has now elected to choose a new strategy by focusing on the development of premium gaming content after an intensive review of product output across the business.
Wade Rosen, Atari CEO, said: “Our intent with any gaming experience is to provide accessible and joyful moments of meaningful play.
“That’s the core of Atari and what binds our history with our future. To that end, we feel that premium gaming is better representative of this type of gaming experience and the Atari DNA.
“In order to efficiently allocate its resources to the success of this new strategy, Atari has decided to exit its direct operations of Atari Casino,” he added.
