Belgium Gaming Commission director to lead new EU committee on egaming standardisation
New voluntary online reporting tool to be developed by multi-nation group

Belgium Gaming Commission (BGC) director Peter Naessens has been appointed the head of a new European Union (EU) committee, which aims to standardise the egaming regulations across the EU.
Naessens has been involved with the BGC for almost 10 years, occupying a variety of roles including head of unit regulatory advice, research and development.
European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) Technical committee 456, or the ‘Reporting in support of online gambling supervision’ committee, held its first meeting on Wednesday in Paris, and is made up of regulators, suppliers and operators from all 28 EU member states.
It aims to investigate ways in which regulatory reporting by egaming companies can be standardised across the EU.
As part of this mandate, the committee will discuss the development of a EU wide voluntary tool to facilitate the flow of information between regulatory authorities in EU countries, gaming operators and suppliers.
The committee was instituted following a standardisation request by the European Commission to develop a European standard on reporting in April.
According to the commission’s brief, the new standard would be “without prejudice to the scope of competence” of existing gambling regulatory authorities and would not impose any sort of obligation to introduce similar reporting requirements in their native jurisdictions.
