Bet365 focusing on recruitment with software testing academy expansion
Technology subsidiary to recruit 10 aspiring testers over two-month assessment period with full training provided

Bet365’s technology business, Hillside Technology, has confirmed the expansion of its Software Testing Academy (STA) to Manchester.
The STA is looking to recruit aspiring and existing professionals in the field of software testing, offering the provision of training which combines technical aspects of working on existing bet365 projects as well as more practical hands-on learning opportunities.
The recruitment drive aims to place bet365 in both the traditional and non-traditional job markets, with the STA focusing on core skills rather than experience.
“Bet365 aims to inspire both those already seeking careers in technology as well as those who haven’t considered one in the past but who have the skills to thrive in it,” the company said in a statement confirming the launch.
The STA will look to recruit up to 10 software testers, with assessment dates confirmed for 21 and 22 February ahead of a potential start date in March/April.
Assessments focus on five core competencies considered crucial for software testing including communication, attention to detail, prioritisation, knowledge retention and analytical skills.
Those deemed successful will enter a training programme overseen by mentors from bet365’s testing teams.
Training will cover both the fundamentals of software testing and provide overviews of important areas including, functional and regression testing, Jira, qTest and test design.
Once completed, trainees will then be placed into a testing team where they will then work jointly and independently on a range of workstreams and be exposed to a variety of testing techniques and products to further enhance and develop their skills.
Training will be provided throughout continue into full employment? through internal and external courses such as ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level.
Bet365’s testing teams comprise two main areas; sports, and members and gaming.
In respect of sports, testing covers both pre and in-play betting content online and via the app, as well as back-office trading tools, improvements to bet management software to ensure quick delivery and testing features including Match Live, Streaming, Bet Builder and Cash Out.
Members and gaming testing covers the testing of responsible gambling controls, account opening procedures, payments, as well as site and content-related functionality.
Hillside Technology CEO Kamal Kaaba highlighted the benefits to prospective applicants of the testing programme.
“If you’re interested in technology, struggling to break into the industry, or looking for work that utilises your analytical, organisational and communication skills, this is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career,” Kaaba said.
“By focusing on the desired core competencies of a potential tester, as opposed to recent or previous career experience, we hope to create a recruitment programme that offers those possessing the right skills an opportunity to apply for a role that otherwise they might have thought unachievable or not considered at all,” he added.
