Betfair launches five-minute football markets with Quickbets
Exchange operator offers punters the chance to bet on five minute segments of televised Premier League and Champions League matches

Betfair has launched new football betting feature, Quickbets, which lets exchange punters bet and trade on five-minute periods of the game.
Each five-minute window during the 90 minutes counts as a new game where the total resets to zero and the preceding period’s bets are settled.
Punters can bet on a variety of five-minute markets. including goals, cards, corners, free-kicks, throw-ins, penalties, offsides and goal kicks, during live and televised Premier League and Champions League games.
Each bet must be placed at least 30 seconds prior to the start of the next five-minute period, while all of the markets will also be active and available to back pre-match.

“The great thing about Quickbets is that they increase the number of opportunities to bet on the biggest fixtures, giving traders and bettors more freedom to manage their positions on a game,” said Betfair on its website.
“Expect an underdog to rough up their Fancy Dan opponents early? Laying under 0.5 yellow cards in the first five minutes might be a wise selection.”
The move towards high velocity markets is already well underway among sportsbooks in the sector, although some exchange punters questioned whether the markets would have enough liquidity, and whether they would have required enough skill to make them attractive to exchange users.
