Betfair appoints Marcus as UK director
Former William Hill Online COO won over by the company's impressive recent hires.

Former William Hill Online COO Peter Marcus has joined Betfair as its new UK director, responsible for more than 50% of its revenues, the London-listed company announced this morning.
He replaces the now-departed Lee Cowles, and will oversee the company’s UK-facing business including the sports exchange, poker and casino products.
Marcus arrives from the Betclic Everest Group where his role as group chief strategy officer, on a long-term consultancy basis, saw him responsible for the integration of the Betclic, Everest and Expekt brands within the combined entity.
He told eGaming Review this morning that he sees his new role as something “exciting and different,” adding that “Betfair is a fantastic company which has now reached a turning point, and there is some fantastic work to carry on with.”
He added that the company’s recent hires, such as former William Hill group operations director Ian Chuter, as integral to his decision to join, believing these hires signify a movement away from the company describing itself as a technology company.
“Betfair is making some impressive hires which demonstrate that it really wants to become a gambling company and wants to be the biggest one in the world. It’s hiring people with great experience in the gambling space and that is one of the things which has impressed me most.”
Marcus, who also runs his own Gibraltar-based consulting firm, Rock Consulting, left William Hill Online in 2009 following a company restructure.
He also previously served as VP marketing for AdsDotCom during his four-and-a-half years at Intercasino, and has also had spells at CryptoLogic and Fortune Lounge Group.
Marcus will join Betfair at the beginning of October.
