Betfair's Gibraltar MD in Lottoland switch
Matt Robinson takes chief commercial officer role at lottery betting firm following surprise departure from Betfair
Lottoland has hired Betfair’s former Gibraltar MD as its chief commercial officer as the lottery-based betting operator ramps up its international expansion plans.
Robinson left Betfair’s Gibraltar-based team, where he was also director of gaming operations, late last year and began his role at Lottoland in early 2015.
He assumes responsibility for the growth of Lottoland’s B2C business, which offers customers the chance to bet on the outcome of lotteries from 17 countries across the world.
The company, which describes itself as the market leader in ‘insurance-based betting’, was founded in 2012 and has grown rapidly from 10 staff to more than 150 today.
Last year Lottoland hired bwin.party’s long serving group director of M&A Nigel Birrell as its chief executive.
The UK and Gibraltar-licensed operator also poached BetVictor’s head of CRM Leonard Judkins into a senior CRM role at the end of last summer.
eGaming Review understands the company’s revenues have experience double-digit growth each year since it was founded and notched up its one millionth customer earlier this month.
Last week eGR reported Lottoland had insured against payouts of up to 100m by arranging an insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) scheme.
ILS is a financial services framework which allows companies to hedge against the risk of a major loss and has historically been deployed as a method to protect insurance firms in the event of catastrophes such as earthquakes and hurricanes.
