Betfred inks ID and KYC partnership with HooYu
Identity verification firm “optimise” sign-up and age verification process ahead of LCCP changes

Betfred has partnered with identity verification firm HooYu to roll out a new customer onboarding process.
The UK bookmaker has intergrated a new customer onboarding process using the HooYu identify platform, following a company-wide review into the new age verification requirements from the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
David de la Yesa, director of payments and fraud at Betfred, said HooYu had complied with all the UKGC’s new verification requirements and created the “best possible” Know Your Customer (KYC) process.
Under the new UKGC requirements, which come into effect from 31 October, UK operators are required to obtain proof of age from a player at the point of first deposit, rather than the previous timescale of 72 hours from deposit.
In addition to the age verification changes, operators are now required to conduct ID verification, additionally verifying a customer’s name and address prior to any gambling taking place.
David Pope, marketing director at HooYu, said the HooYu Identify platform enabled compliance with UKGC standards but also minimised the impact to customer acquisition during the player sign up process.
In June, Betfred relaunched its desktop site following a ‘reverse migration’ onto the mobile site codebase. This replaced the operator’s previous desktop software, which had previously been in operation for almost 15 years.
