Bethard to exit UK gambling market
Malta-based operator confirms July closure as open bets are voided with stakes returned

Bethard will cease all gambling activity in the UK from July after deciding to pull out of the market, EGR Intel has learned.
In an email to customers, the Malta-based operator with Swedish roots confirmed its closing down date as 6 July 2020.

Customers will be able to play on the site until the closing date, but activity will be limited to the withdrawal of funds after the 6 July cut-off point.
Bethard has confirmed open bets will be voided with the stake reimbursed to the account, while punters will have five weeks, until 10 August, to withdraw any leftover account balances.
“We at Bethard would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and hope you have enjoyed the cutting-edge gaming that Bethard has had to offer,” said the email.
“We will do our utmost to ensure that we continue to offer you the best possible service during our last few weeks of operations.”
The UK has proven to be a punishing market for entry-level operators as increased regulation and sector consolidation make it difficult to compete.
Bethard is the latest operator to leave the UK’s ultra-competitive environment. LeoVegas-owned Royal Panda, Kindred’s Maria Casino and French firm Betclic have also left the market over the last 12 months.

Bethard brand ambassador Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Bethard utilised an aggressive European expansion strategy, including entry into Ireland, after signing Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimović as a brand ambassador back in 2018.
Bethard did not respond to an EGR request for comment.
