Bitcoin online casino acquired for $11.5m
SotoshiDice sale is first major acquisition of a Bitcoin industry website
Bitcoin (BTC) online gaming site SotoshiDice has been sold for 126,315 BTC ($11.5m), the first major acquisition in the digital currency’s economy.
The buyer of the lucky dice game, which offers instant payouts and zero transaction fees, has yet to be announced but has bought the site for 0.00126315 BTC per share.
Founder of the online casino Erik Vorhees announced the sale on Wednesday and said it was “a solid, desirable, and fair outcome for those who have put their trust in [SatoshiDice]”.
According to its website SatoshiDice has seen over 5.3 million bets placed and 3.9 million Bitcoins won. In January the site reported earnings of $500,000 and Bloomberg estimates the site has taken in more than $15m in bets.
Launched in April 2012, it is “floated” on the unregulated Romanian Bitcoin exchange MPEX and claims to be “the most popular Bitcoin game in the world.”
