Irish bookmaker secures operating permit enabling it to offer egaming services from its new Gibraltar base

BoyleSports has been given the green light to offer egaming services from its new Gibraltar-based office after receiving its operating licence from the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner earlier this week, eGaming Review has learned.
The award of the permit comes after the Irish operator last year set out plans to set up an operational hub on the Rock and relocate its sports betting and gaming businesses under the Gibraltarian regulatory framework.
BoyleSports’ finance director Michael Bent confirmed receipt of the licence and said the firm had already formed a team of 10 staff based in Gibraltar’s Ocean Village with a further 10 to be added over the coming months.
“Being home to about 15 of the world’s top 20 betting companies, Gibraltar is an unrivalled centre of excellence in our industry,” Bent told eGR. “We would like to thank the regulator and the minister for assisting us through this process and look forward to working with them in the future,” he added.
BoyleSports’ recently appointed chief marketing officer Neill Garfield is expected to be one of the most senior members of the Gibraltar team with the firm having stated the former NordicBet director would be based on the Rock once it had received clearance from the regulator.
Confirmation of the licence means the firm is able hand back operating licences from Isle of Man and Alderney, which it had been using to offer its remote sports betting and gaming products respectively.
The move to Gibraltar was major a consideration in the operator’s recent decision to shut its London office, less than two years after opening the Bayswater base.
Despite the office closure, the operator remains committed to the UK market and plans to launch a major UK marketing push ahead of the Rugby Union World Cup later this year.
