
Camelot posts record online sales
UK National Lottery operator increases overall sales by 7% to almost £7bn
Camelot says it intends to “lead the field” of online lottery innovation after posting record digital sales in 2012.
The operator of the UK National Lottery succeeded in growing sales in the year to 31 March 2013 to an all-time high of £6.977bn, an increase of 6.9% on the previous year. While online sales were not broken out in the figures, Andy Duncan, managing director of Camelot UK Lotteries said online sales rose to record levels.
Interactive and subscription sales increased by £146.3m to £1.186bn. Duncan said the company is “determined” to build on the year’s success by “continuing to give our players what they want “ anytime, anywhere”.
“With record online sales last year, we lead the field of digital lottery innovation and this will remain a key focus as we look to become even more cutting edge across all of our channels,” Duncan said. “This will ensure that The National Lottery continues to change lives for the better for people and communities the length and breadth of the UK.”
Retail vendors, accounting for 83% of all sales, remain the largest National Lottery sales channel. Camelot also revealed it met its target of raising £750m for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games from sales of specially-designated lottery games “ part of an overall National Lottery funding package of almost £2.2bn towards the Games.
Meanwhile, as part of its drive to offer even greater engagement with The National Lottery, Camelot has continued to develop its social media platforms, resulting in its Twitter and Facebook communities more than doubling in size in the past year. The company now interacts with more than 84,000 Twitter followers and over 445,000 Facebook fans.
