Colossus Bets wins Coral's £1m football jackpot
CEO of rival jackpot site placed £35,000 bet on Coral Interactive's 15-game accumulator
Football betting site Colossus Bets scooped the £1m football jackpot at Corals on Monday after landing an audacious £35,000 accumulator bet.
The bet was a permed accumulator using 34,922 lines at £1 a line and was placed by Colossus Bets CEO Bernard Marantelli.
Coral had launched a promotion through which customers could win a £1m jackpot if they correctly predicted the results of 15 matches.
A syndicate led by Marantelli took on the challenge and made the £34,922 bet that won the jackpot last night thanks to Monday night’s draw between Brighton and Watford. His bet also included Manchester United to win at home to Stoke, a game in which the away team led with 10 minutes left on the clock.
After the winnings were deposited in his account Marantelli tweeted: “Cheers @Coral, very quick payout! #Thanksamillion”.
“Fair play to Coral for giving us the chance to win £1 million,” the Colossus Bets chief exec said. “They were great sports on the night, as the two rival companies had very different results hinging on the game.”
Following the payout, Coral said it would continue to offer the special accumulator although was unable to confirm the next jackpot would be worth as much as £1m.
“The Football Jackpot has proved to be extremely popular, particularly with shop customers, and we have already paid out significant sums to those staking as little as £1, but we have always been aware that with the large prize funds on offer, it was likely we would attract the big-staking syndicates on occasions, as racing’s Scoop6 has over the years,” David Stevens, Coral spokesperson, said.
“We now look forward to the pools growing again, although we are not guaranteeing a £1m payout to the next sole winner “ this was very much part of the marketing activity around the launch of the bet,” he added.
