ComeOn hit by 180k Dutch fine
Dutch regulator continues clamp down on unregulated operators as eight directors and shareholders face further investigation
ComeOn Europe has been hit with a fine of 180,000 as part of the Dutch Gaming Authority’s continued clamp down on egaming firms offering gambling products without a licence.
In a ruling made in late December, but only made public on Friday, the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) judged ComeOn to have directly targeted Dutch customers by including a Dutch language version on its website accompanied with a picture of the Netherlands national flag.
The KSA said it had repeatedly requested changes to the website which ComeOn claimed would be made, however later inspections showed that no amendments had been made and the regulator decided to press ahead with the fine.
Eight directors and shareholders of ComeOn were also warned about their future conduct pending further investigations into their conduct at the company.
The KSA stressed that it does not “consider these people at this time as offenders”, but an investigation into their “precise role and function” at ComeOn could see additional penalties issued.
The fine comes a month after the KSA issued its largest penalty to date when it fined Titanbet.com operator Imperial E-Club 200,000 for a similar breach and follows a string of other fines issued as the regulator has looked to stamp out its authority prior to the Dutch market regulating early next year.
ComeOn Europe confirmed to eGaming Review this morning that they intend to appeal the verdict.
